How to be a Good Christian

“Bear with each other, be patient with each other, and forgive, forgive, forgive“ - Wesleyne

Colossians 3:12 to 17:

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

In Colossians 3:12-17, the Apostle Paul provides a profound exhortation to the believers in Colossae, detailing the virtues and behaviors that should characterize their new life in Christ. He begins by urging them to "clothe" themselves with qualities such as compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. These virtues are not just individual attributes but are interconnected, working in harmony to reflect the nature of Christ. Paul emphasizes the importance of bearing with one another and forgiving grievances, just as the Lord forgave them. This call to unity and love culminates in verse 14, where Paul declares love as the bond of perfect unity. The peace of Christ is to rule in their hearts, and they are to be thankful, embodying the communal aspect of the Christian faith where members are called into one body.

Today, you will learn several key principles about the Christian life. Firstly, the transformation that comes from accepting Christ is not just internal but should manifest externally in your actions and interactions. The virtues listed are not just moral guidelines but are reflections of Christ's own character, which believers are called to emulate. Secondly, the emphasis on forgiveness serves as a reminder of the grace we've received and the grace we ought to extend to others.

This passage also underscores the importance of unity in the body of Christ, suggesting that our shared faith should be a catalyst for mutual understanding and harmony. Lastly, the exhortation to let the word of Christ dwell richly and to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus highlights the centrality of Christ in all aspects of a believer's life. It's a call to continuous worship, gratitude, and a Christ-centered approach to every endeavor.
